Day 07 – Most underrated book
Nine Stories by J.D. Salinger has to get my vote on this one. Most people have only read his Catcher in the Rye (Unpopular opinion: I hated it), but this is an infintely more complex volume, comprised of nine short stories. Some of the stories continue with the story of the Glass family, introduced in Raise High The Roof Beam, Carpenters and concluded in Franny & Zooey. In this volume, Salinger shows the true extent of his macabre human and his understanding of the human psyche (setting up the tone for Franny & Zooey, in which the latter is combined with his fascination for Eastern philosophy). Definitely a good place to start if you’ve never read Salinger before, and an exceptional collection of short stories in its own right!
