I have fairly particular habits when it comes to books and reading.
- No breaking the spines
- No dog-earing pages (people who borrow from me are warned that I may kill them if they do this to one of my books)
- Donate any books I’m not likely to read again
- Return borrowed books in a timely fashion, usually before they’re missed
- Don’t form opinions until you have read the book (though Twilight is the exception here…)
- Recommend favourite books to others
- Pay no more than $35 for a book (with BookDepository, you’ll probably never need to)
And the most important:
- Read widely and often!
I go out, planning to find some more pieces to revamp my wardrobe (one of my resolutions) and what happens? I buy two basic t-shirts (black and white), then head to the bookstore and proceed to spend $100 at lightening speed (they were all on the shelves right beside the door) on The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes, Death Comes to Pemberley by P.D. James and 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami.
I’m pretty sure that I’m #3 =]

Dear James Patterson,
You are a legend.
Sincerely,
An avid reader

Another challenge update and more books!
I’ve been able to avoid my jeans thus far, even though the weather isn’t all that nice.
Saturday - red 3/4 sleeve skater dress, black thermal leggings, black cardigan, Alannah Hill bow belt (found down the side of my armchair after six weeks of looking for it), black flats
Sunday - pink jersey dress, black cardigan, black sandals
Monday - patterned (aqua blue, pale purple, pale grey and black) dress, grey herringbone-patterned stockings, black flats, black cardigan, grey velveteen blazer
Today - patterned olive green and black zip-up dress, grey wool stockings, black cardigan, black flats, black coat
I also bought more books from The Book Depository! I’ll soon be running out of things to read recently and have been ransacking the shelves in the house with a tiny bit of success. I spent $127.72 and ended up with 10 books.
Here’s what I ordered
- Changeless, Blameless and Heartless by Gail Carriger (I must admit, I love Alexia Tarabotti, soulless steampunk heroine)
- The Golden Notebook by Doris Lessing (something I’ve been meaning to read for a while)
- The Stranger by Albert Camus (likewise)
- Someday This Pain Will Be Useful To You by Peter Cameron (a Tumblr suggestion)
- No Plot? No Problem! by Chris Baty (to get back into writing)
- Under The Table by Katherine Darling (I love books about food and cooking)
- The 4-Hour Body by Timothy Ferriss (sounds pretty interesting)
- Palo Alto by James Franco (what CAN’T this man do?!)
Now to wait the two weeks or so for delivery…

I just watched The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr Morris Lessmore (available for $1.99 from iTunes). What an absolutely beautiful story - but very hard to explain the plot without ruining it.
