I go out, planning to find some more pieces to revamp my wardrobe (one of my resolutions) and what happens? I buy two basic t-shirts (black and white), then head to the bookstore and proceed to spend $100 at lightening speed (they were all on the shelves right beside the door) on The Sense of an Ending by Julian Barnes, Death Comes to Pemberley by P.D. James and 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami.

Challenge update and more shopping
Wednesday: I must seriously be having a moment because I can’t remember…
Thursday: pink ruffly Peter Alexander dress, black patent belt, black stockings, black flats, black cardigan
Friday: 3/4 sleeve purple skater dress, black bow belt, grey patterned wool stockings, black boots, black cardigan, purple-grey-black patterned silk scarf
Saturday: (day) pink jersey dress, black patent belt, grey plain wool stockings, black flats, black cardigan
Today: flower-patterned Dangerfield dress, black diamond patterned wool stockings, black cardigan, black flats
Still all dresses/skirts!
Yesterday, I went on a marathon shop to get out of the house because Red was at a production meeting for the short film he wrote.
It was his mum’s birthday too, so I bought her a Lush giftbox and a candle from Dusk.
I also bought:
- Peter Alexander Disney PJs for both me and my baby cousin (hers are for Christmas)
- Stephen Fry’s first novel
- Levi demi-curve jeans in black because I have no black jeans!
- Grey shorts from Dangerfield, on sale
- Navy cardigan from Glassons, on sale
- Two fixed clips for my Pandora bracelet (which makes it so much easier to wear)
- Over 1kg of pick-and-mix old-school lollies (think raspberries, pineapples, caramel drops, Jaffas)
I think I’m all shopped out for a while now…

When I was unemployed and then-boyfriend lived in another state, I went shopping ALL THE TIME. Now that I have a job and live with my boyfriend, I don’t really get to go girly-shopping much at all.
Today, however, was an exception because he ran off to get the footage of a short film he wrote.
I had to get my cousin a birthday present, so I ended up at Mimco and bought her a bracelet, plus I bought myself the red rose earrings that I’d been eyeing off for months and that were on SALE finally! Then I hit Myer and got myself a blue velvet pencil skirt, two retro tees (one with The Breakfast Club on it, the other with pretend-mugshots of Zooey Deschanel, James McAvoy, Josh Hartnett, Vera Farmiga - to name a few) from Dangerfield, plus a pair of bright red pinup girl wedges.
I’m trying to revamp my wardrobe because I’m ALWAYS wearing jeans and I’m pretty sick of them. Bring on summer and little dresses, sandals, tiny handbags and no more black!

A little bit of a back story here: about 4 years ago, I was with my dad’s friend at Paddington Markets and we came across this awesome little stall with handmade leather purses. I ended up with a shiny silver lobster clasp shoulder bag (exactly like the ones in the photo).
About 3 months ago, I was at my local Westfield and they were having a Young Australian Designers pop-up market (pays to live out in the suburbs sometimes) and there this stall was. I saw these bags at the time, and haven’t been able to stop thinking about them since.
It’s the 10th anniversary of the business, so she’s been offering deals on her Facebook page, and today I won two of these purses (navy blue and red) with free shipping for $165 (RRP: $110 + $10 postage - EACH).
It’s ironic because I bought a red and navy blue sailor dress from Dangerfield last night (after trying it on early this week and thinking about it constantly afterwards) and the navy blue purse will match it perfectly. The red purse is just because, even though I have a red Mimco clutch, it’s sometimes too small to fit what I want to take.
In an attempt to not run out of things to read (I have about 6 books on my bedside table that are ‘to-read’, but no more), I tapped into my wishlist on The Book Depository.
For $134.98, I ended up with:
- Stephen Fry’s Moab is My Washpot
- Sebastian Faulks’ Faulks on Fiction
- Gail Carriger’s Soulless
- Hilary Thayer Hamann’s Anthropology of an American Girl
- Mike Holgate’s Agatha Christie’s True Crime Inspirations
- Hilary Winston’s My Boyfriend Wrote a Book About Me
- Douglas Adams’ The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (audio book, narrated by Stephen Fry)
- Anthony Bourdain’s Kitchen Confidential (narrated by Tony himself)
Now to play the waiting game…they should arrive in about 2 weeks.
Because I’m starting work on Tuesday (Monday is the Queen’s birthday public holiday), I’ve been shopping a few times to try and find some warm clothes to wear to work (as there’s no real dress code apart from ‘look neat and tidy’). Also, I cashed in my Travel Money Card from my holiday, so I had about $570 in cash to dispose of…
So far, I have bought:
- Levi’s Curve ID jeans (in skinny Demi-Curve)
- a replacement red cardigan since my last one died on our holiday
- a waterproof winter coat, as we (Red, his family and I) may be heading to the snow this season
- two short-sleeved shirts from Peter Alexander at DFO
- two long-sleeved dresses (purple and black)
- black flats (the others needed replacing badly)
I also ended up buying Whitechapel season 2 and Spooks season 9, because Duke Nukem Forever has been released and I was warned by Red that he would be playing it non-stop because “I’ve been waiting twelve years for this game”. That, plus Downton Abbey, Masterchef Australia, The Social Network, and all the Disney movies he’s put onto my computer, should keep me occupied for a while…until I feel the need to buy a Wii Fit Plus.
This is where I visited on Valentine’s Day. I love this shop, but it’s currently only open as a pop-up store every few months since it had to vacate the original site. The owner, who dresses like a pin-up girl, is absolutely lovely and it’s always a pleasure to visit because it’s a social event as well as a shopping event!
